U13 County Champions

Yesterday the U13 girls competed in the County Hockey Tournament at Wyncote and successfully defended their title. There were 10 teams in the competition and it was ran on a round robin format.

The College got off to a great start with a 5-0 win over St Edwards, with goals from Sadie Taylor, Libby Harrison and Abi Ali. The second game was much tighter and finished goalless with some excellent goalkeeping from Amelia Young in our goal and from the Merchant Taylor’s keeper. Merchant Taylors, were always going to be one of our main challengers, so it made the tournament a little more tense. Following that match came a string of victories, 2-0 vs Greenbank B, 1-0 vs St Edwards B, 5-0 vs Range, and 2-0 vs St Marys. The final two matches were crucial to the outcome of the tournament as Greenbank A, Merchant Taylors and ourselves were all still in contention to win. The girls were fantastic in the game against Bluecoat and came out convincing 3-1 winners with goals from Abi Ali, Evie Hannah and Libby Harrison. We then played our final match vs Greenbank A who had beaten Merchant Taylors, making this a crucial match with them only having to face their own B team in the final game of the whole tournament. We started brilliantly with a goal in the first 10 seconds with a lovely slick passing move between Sadie Taylor, Libby Harrison and Abi Ali, but unfortunately, a defensive mix up led to Greenbank making a quick return. The game stayed that way finishing 1-1.

This left the result down to goal difference. We had 2 more goals for and 3 less against than Greenbank who had their B team to play. We were not optimistic. However, the Greenbank B team put up a great fight and only lost 0-1, meaning that Liverpool College were winners by 1 goal!

All the girls were excellent representatives of the College and deserve congratulating.
